Our community relies on the fairgrounds as an economical place to gather, but the proposed fees and regulations would make it impossible for most of us to afford. I would like to express my concerns with the excessive regulations and fees in the Special Events Permit proposal. We know that most people hold their events on the fairgrounds due to our affordability, and these fees would make most events cost prohibitive. If the proposed fees from the State Fire Marshal go through, we would be required to charge an additional $3,840 in fees that would go directly to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Hosting an event in Hatfield Hall with 500 guests will generally cost our renters $1,200. The Office of the State Fire Marshal is proposing regulations and fees for events to such a great extent that we may no longer be able to hold events on the fairgrounds, or may be required to raise our prices to such an extent that the general public will not be able to afford to hold events here.Īs an example.
